Chance of success varies with the type of skin color and the pigments and size of the tattoo. But the best part is – today we have more sophisticated methods of removing tattoos that uses laser technology.

What should you not do…!!

What not to do

While you plan to remove your body art, know that using any method just like that won't be wise. There are many methods of getting a tattoo removed from your body, but not every method is recommended. Such as: Scarification, Surgery, Salabrasion and Cryosurgery.

Salabrasion

There are people who uses various home-remedies to remove tattoos, such as Salabrasion. It is one of the most commonly used home-remedies for removing tattoos from skin at home. In this method, usually a moist gauze pads saturated with sodium chloride are used to clean the tattooed area by rubbing. This method however, seems simple and effective, but scars are likely to be left behind even after the tattoo is healed completely.

Exfoliator

Then another home remedy that people use to remove a tattoo is – Exfoliator. People believe that combining hydrogen peroxide with a natural exfoliator works well as a home remedy for removing a tattoo . Natural exfoliator scrub or exfoliate your dead and excess skin, while hydrogen peroxide lightens the skin and let the tattoo fade away gradually from the area. However, it is not very effective methods as there are chances of getting rashes or bruised skin due to exfoliation.

Scarification

Some people prefer to choose Scarification for doing away with their tattoos. Scarification is the tattoo removal technique that is a form of body modification. In scarification, an acid solution is used to remove the tattoo from your body. The scar that forms in the procedure in the area basically covers up whatever ink remains.

Surgery

When we talk about removing a tattoo surgically, it is crucial to know that a large tattoo can't be removed surgically. Yes, only small or tiny tattoos can be removed by surgeries. Also, not every doctor will perform tattoo removal surgery. In surgery, usually the tattooed skin is cut out and the skin is then sewn back, which of course leaves the scar behind. But, not a recommended method!!

Cryosurgery

Cryosurgery- Liquid Nitrogen

Cryosurgery, also called Cryo-therapy, is a technique that is used to remove tattoos. In this procedure, liquid nitrogen is used to freeze-burns the tattooed skin. Let me tell you, this is the same method which is commonly used to treat warts, blisters or other skin abrasions.

Creams

There are several tattoo removal creams available in the market. But there is no certainty whether the tattoo will be removed with these creams or not. Also, using any tattoo removal cream for getting rid of your tattoo is not recommended. As these creams may cause skin reactions or skin allergies or infections . Because the ingredients that are used in the fading process are chemical irritants that are meant to erode the skin. You never know when you will get allergic reactions due to these creams. As you don't know the actual ingredients of the cream.

As I said, not every method can be used to remove a tattoo from the skin. And these three methods along with the home-remedies are not very successful methods of removing a tattoo. These methods are neither successful, not these methods are safe for your skin.

Methods – How to get a tattoo removed naturally!!

We have already spoken about the methods which are not successful for removing a tattoo. But, the best method to remove a tattoo is – quality-switched, also called Q-switched lasers. Q-switched lasers have become very popular during the past few decades. In this procedure, the beam of light is used that searches for contrast between skin tone and ink and the light then pulses intensely on the skin and breaks the ink down into very small particles. These particles are small enough for the body to absorb. Laser removal is considered the best and most successful technique of removing a tattoo.

Laser treatment works differently for all the patients, depending on your tattoo. For instance, removing a tattoo in black ink on light skin is relatively easier than the ones on darker skin shades. It is believed that the greater the color contrast between the ink and skin, the easier the removal of tattoo becomes. However, fluorescent colors, especially green and purple are less likely to be erased as these colors get etched deep into the skin, thereby making it nearly impossible to remove.

Besides, the size of the tattoo also matters. For instance, smaller tattoos are relatively a lot easier than the ones bigger in size. Because the ink in small or tiny tattoos is easier to break down.

In order to get rid of a tattoo via laser treatment, patients need to undergo 6 to 12 laser treatment sessions, depending upon the size and color of the tattoo. Sometimes these sessions can even go lengthier, maybe 20 or more. Also, these sessions do not take place back to back. Patients need to wait a month between treatments; hence, the process lasts six months to a year.

Moreover, laser treatments can be painful. Also, the skin after the treatment looks like a healing burn. Therefore, it is recommended that the patient takes very good care of his/her skin after the treatment. Patients should always apply antibiotic ointment and keep the skin bandaged after the treatment in order to get the area healed faster. Also, whenever going out make sure to apply sunscreen.

However, laser treatment leaves little to no scarring, but in some people it can even cause allergic reactions. And in some cases, the skin around the tattooed area becomes discolored or infected.

Cost of laser treatment

Laser treatment happens in sessions that gradually adds to your pocket. Yes, laser treatments are expensive affairs. Usually one laser treatment session cost up to $300 or more, depending upon the artists. Remember that the cost of removing a tattoo via laser treatment will always be higher than getting a tattoo in the first place. But, the truth remains that laser is the most secure and successful method or removing a tattoo.

Method to Conceal a Tattoo

Besides removing a tattoo via laser treatment, you can even opt for Cover-up tattoos. As the name says, cover up tattoos are tattoos used to cover your ugly-looking or disappointing or unwanted tattoo. One can opt for a cover up tattoo if he/she is not happy with the existing one or if your existing tattoo is fading. In this procedure, your previous and unwanted tattoo is replaced with a new one.

Method to Conceal a Tattoo

All you need to do is get an idea about the design which you can extend to cover your existing tattoo and schedule an appointment with your tattoo artist. The tattooist will further guide you exactly how to go ahead. All you have to do is to finalize a nice design this time, because the choice of a design to cover your old tattoo will make a remarkable difference. So choose wisely!

How does Cover-up Work?

When we get tattoos the ink gets deposited at least one millimeter beneath our skin i.e., into the dermis – a layer just below the epidermis (the skin). While you get a cover up tattoo ink again gets deposited in the same dermis where the ink from the previous tattoo is already present.

So, the pigment of the new ink doesn't settle on top of the pigment of the old tattoo, in fact, the two colors (color from old tattoo and the new tattoo) get mixed and form a new color. More often the dark color dominates the mix. For instance, if blue and red are combined the mix will turn into purple. And that's the reason black ink is considered as the most effective color to cover up old tattoos.

Cover up tattoos are a nice alternative to getting rid of an ugly looking tattoo from the skin. As, these tattoos simply conceal the old artwork with the new one. And it is comparatively less expensive than the laser treatment. Depending on the design, shape, and location or your tattoo, a skilled tattooist simply transforms an old tattoo into a new design artistically.

Thanks for reading, hope this post helps you decide which method to opt for removing your artwork!!

Happy tattooing…. ☺ ☺
